Disappointed

Went here for lunch (no lunch menu) therefore I spent $26 (not including the tip)! My meal was a 6oz piece of grouper and a loaded mashed potatoe ($17) and a glass of zinfindel ($7). Thats really too expensive for lunch! The atmophere was nice, very dim though. But I was not at all impressed. I felt other resteraunts very close to this one (Bahama Breeze, Logans, Olive Garden) has so much more to offer and they ARE NOT this expensive. I was disappointed. Meals don't include a salad, bread, NOTHING.

This was my first time eating here. I had the fish sandwich and smashed potatoes. The sandwich as a little soggy, but it was still good. The very large portion of smashed potatoes was delicious. Oh yah, I forgot to add the service was great! On my next visit I will probably order the chicken salad.

A good standby

My husband and I dine here quite frequently. I like the prime rib, prime rib sandwich (go figure!) and steak maui.
I've also had the pulled chicken sandwich and fish sandwich. They are okay, but not something I salivate thinking about. My favorite side is the macaroni and cheese, but the smashed potatoes and fries are good too. The best thing at J.Alexanders is not even on the menu - the smoked salmon dip that is sometimes served as an appetizer special. It is divine. This is a wonderful place to go just to eat, but there's nothing outstandingly romantic or special about it. Ever been to Houston's? It's like that (just not QUITE as good!)

Since I got there relatively early for a weekday dinner crowd (6:30) it was nice and quiet but got exceedingly louder. I'm not a fuddy-duddy but I don't like tables of squealing people. Maybe it was just the acoustics in the area I was seated. The Steak Maui had a good flavor but half of what I got was fat and gristle and was unevenly cooked. You get a HUGE portion of the "smashed" potatos but they have absolutely no seasoning whatsoever. The service however was impeccable and the cappuccino was great. Overall I'd say the experience was mediocre.
