Great place, great food but...

The food is excellent, the thing is I find it to expensive for the plate that has only one side instead of two. For example: If you choose meat, then of course the side is rice, but then for tostones, amarillos or yuca is extra. If you are from PR, you know, the plates have two sides, NO one. The other thing, service is bad, slow, they are running out of employees every time I go, maybe is a curse. But for the food is excellent, I will give 5 stars when they take care of those two things. Remember, we the customer are the one who are keeping the restaurant where it is right now.

As if I was in Cayey, PR

Gosh! I cannot complain, it definitely is great food, great service and atmosphere! Once you go into the restaurant you feel you are in Puerto Rico, it sure makes us homesick! At least we have a piece of Puerto Rico in Orlando:)! You definitely will have a wonderful experience!

A great place to try Puerto Rican food

We went to Guavate at the recommendation of a person from our office. After watching Anthony Bourdain in Puerto Rico, I knew I had to try Mofongo. This place was incredible. I got the Garlic Shrimp Mofongo. It was incredible, the shrimp were huge and the taste of garlic did not overpower the mofongo. In addition there were bits of crispy pork skin thoughout the dish. My wife got the Pollo Asado with Manpastao Rice or a BBQ chicken with Red beans and rice. The chicken was perfectly done, crispy on the outside, succulent and juicy on the inside. The Red Beans and Rice were a wonderful accompaniment to the chicken. In addition we got some soruijitos, a corn meal and cheese fritter. it came with two great dipping sauces. We finished off the meal with a tres leches cake and some cafe con leche. My wife and I were impressed at not only the food but the decor as well. Our only difficulty is that the restaurant obviously caters to a hispanic clientele so make sure you know some spanish. we were trying to get some type of coconut dessert and somehow got tres leches cake. Thankfully the tres leches was soo good we didn't mind. It's a great restaurant!
