Bad hostess

I've gone there in the past. Good salad bar but not the greatest. Last time i was there the service wasn't good. Today I went there for dinner. The hostess ignored me and kept taking all the people behind me ans seating them. Finally I said you just lost a customer for good since you're ignoring me and seating all those who came in behind me. No response from her and other customers just as rude not saying she's in front of us take her. Left and went to another restaurant and lo and behold my waitress there was training a new waitress that just left Genesis because of all the problems with hostesses and waitresses playing favorites with customers and ignoring others.

A Classic

I've spent countless hours of my life in Genesis. The food is good, not great, but the waiters and waitresses are friendly, and they're open 24 hours! What more could you want? This is one of my favorite places to just sit and talk with friends all night. Can't go wrong!

Good food, yeah right!!

My family and I went there Christmas Day, only because where we had a reservation was jammed packed. The atmosphere was not bad, typical family style dining. The waitress, although not knowledgeable about the menu, was polite. The food was horrible! I had prime rib; dry, tough and full of gristle. My child had the duck; dehydrated, covered with a sweet goop, and sitting atop of dresing, I think! My wife advised me to complain, I thought it would be better to not come back. So I did as wifey suggested. The waitress advised me that the manager was not in, but an interested party heard my concerns, but did not want to speak to me. Okay! I know I won't be back. I got to the register to pay for my food with no intentions of complaining, and the cashier asked, "How was your meal?" So I replied, "Horrible!" I explained what had occurred, she opolagized. There was a very unpleasant short haired female standing there named "Robin" who alleged to be the manager. She did not seem concerned in any way. That solidified my non-return. If you give this place better than a "1-Star", you don't eat out much!

Can you say food poisoning?

My friend and I visited the restaurant last Monday March 16. Within an hour we both became violently ill! My friend missed 2 days of work and my stomach was just awful for a week! I used to visit Genesis very very often, alone with other friends and family memebers, but now, no way! I can not afford to feel this way! In addition, the restaurant was very messy and our waitress was to busy talking to another employee and never came to check on us!

Good find

We have been back 4 times. Good food, drinks. Very friendly staff. Reasonable prices. Mix of clientele: families, young, old. Large pleasant smoking and non-smoking sections.
Perhaps the negative reviewer hit a bad day - but our experiences have ranged from average to excellent.
Sandwiches range from $5 to $10; meals from $8 to $14 including salad, desert, glass of wine - a good value in our book.

Great food and for a good price

I don't know what the previous poster was talking about, but my wife and I have eaten at Genesis at least 50 times over the course of 4-5 years. In fact, our wedding rehearsal dinner was there.

The food quality has gone up since we started eating there. LOL, the muffins were never homemade. They used to turn to stone and get hard like a baseball the next day when we took them home. But their new bread tastes much better and is higher quality. Their cheesecake and dessert has also improved.

Service is excellent and we've never had trouble. I'd highly recommend them to anyone and everyone.

don't waste your money here!!!

After dining at Genesis for the past year, just to get a good meal now and again, the food has taken a horrible dive in quality. Unfortunate for them!! The soup is homemade and the bread also, although I do miss their homemade muffins - they were much better, and, I'm sure, cost more to serve .... Where the soup and bread used to be an awesome prelude to a very good meal for an amazing price, now it is the only thing enjoyable there. The service is 10-plus in quality - the staff is the best at any family restaurant that I have ever experienced. When I moved to West Allis from downtown, I thought I had found a new restaurant "home." The last 2 meals I had (breakfast skillet, and spinach pie and grilled chicken breast combo) left me with nothing other than the taste of peppery grease and a nauseous stomach and my wallet a whole lot lighter. When I told the cashier that the spinach pie was the worst I'd ever had (minced spinach leaves and stem, barely cooked, with greasy melted feta cheese, wrapped in phyllo dough that was soaked in cheap grease), she ran for the manager, twice. Apparently he was too busy to come talk to me personally. I turned down the $5.00 gift certificate she offered in compensation. Since I have no intentions of returning, I told her, what good is a gift certificate??? Now I'm $16.00 lighter in the wallet and have a sick stomach. Don't waste your time (my dinner took 1.5 hrs from start to finish!) and don't waste your money. If you want an awesome spinach pie, visit Ouzo's on N. MIiwaukee St. by the London drycleaner. Ask for Nicki, the owner, she'll give you an awesome downtown dining experience for no more money than you'll spend in what has become a very, very greasy diner at Genesis. On the other hand, if you like a lot of spicy, cheap grease and you like to pay through the nose for it, then Genesis is definitely a "Must Do" dining experience.
