sucks

wayyy overrated yet busy. Busy because it's CHEAP and they give HUGE Portions, but as for quality? F'get about it. You won't find that here, go to Alto Cinco if you want great mexican fusion styled meals. Go to Taco Bell if you want fast food mexcican- tastes much better than this place. I am sure the owners do not care as they are raking in the dough. All the more reason to believe that people do not know what good Mexcian food tastes like in Syracuse.

ARE YOU DETRACTORS EMPLOYEES OF OTHER PLACES

i KNOW THIS PLACE WELL AND HAVE READ THE REVIEWS THAT HAVE BEEN LEFT. ANYONE THAT DETRACTS FROM THE FOOD IS EITHER INSANE OR HAS TO BE EMPLOYED BY ANOTHER RESTAURANT. ANYONE WHO WOULD EVEN COMPARE THE FOOD AT BOOM BOOM WITH THE OTHER RESTAURANTS IS TRULY NOT COGNIZANT OF GOOD MEXICAN FOOD. I HAVE TRAVELED THE WORLD INCLUDING MEXICO AND I TRULY BELIEVE THAT THE FOOD AT BOOM BOOM IS THE BEST I HAVE EVER HAD, WITH ONE EXCEPTION. THERE WAS ONE RESTAURANT IN MEXICO CITY WITH A MORE EXTENSIVE MENU AND THE TASTES WERE SLIGHTLY MORE FLAVORFUL. THE BILL AT THAT RESTAURANT WAS ALMOST $200 FOR TWO OF US. YOU REALLY CAN'T BEAT BOOM BOOM. BTW, I'M A INVESTOR AND NOT EMPLOYED BY ANY RESTAURANTS.

YUM YUM MEX MEX!

I'm glad some people put bad reviews on this, b/c then maybe the line won't be as long!!! I love Boom Boom's...very very tastey...I can't WAIT until it opens in the spring again!

Awesome Food!!!!

Boom boom's has the best food around!! No other Mexican place can compare. The staff are very friendly and you get to make your dish exactly the way you want it!!! The only negative I know is that they are closed from Nov - April!!!! This place is a must eat place!!!!

manz

never again

tried it both kids got the runs after eating there friendly servers but clueless as to there job onions tasted like ^^^^ the hot sauce was ok
too much $ for cafeteria style i cant believe any one would eat there more than once.

Delicious!!!! yum

I love this place. Those of you complaining about the chicken. Its perfectly fine, and has spices in it, and its freshly made.I love it. If you all say its horrible, then why would there be a line out the door almost everyday in the summer??? probably because it IS A GREAT PLACE!!!!

Bad food, bad decor...who could ask for more?

Listen - I'm not a foodie, I'm not a food critic for a magazine but when I want Mexican food, I know what I want and what is good...this is not.
The chicken for the burritos looks like it was boiled in water with hot dogs. Maybe try adding some spices - just a thought. As for the atmosphere, if I wanted to eat a taco sitting in a lawn chair in my garage I would have brought home Taco Bell.

Not as great as everyone says

Going through these reviews I can accertain that 'Foodstuff' does know what he/she is talking about. My boyfriend and I just went there tonight and were hugely disappointed. Perhaps because we have eaten great Mexican food in both NYC and California...perhaps not. If you're going to have a limited menu that is just fine but at least make all taste great! The chicken looked like could have been styrofoam peanuts and tasted just like it. The guacamole was really bland and the chips served with it didn't taste much better. If this owner is Mexican and lives there part of the year, she has GOT to know that she is pulling the wool over some customers eyes...not this one. I will never go back.

Foodstuff was right on target

I decided to try this place since I saw so many positive reviews. Turns out....Foodstuff was right! The menu WAS limited. Furthermore, the staff, though friendly, were very disorganized about processing our order. The tomatoes and onions gave the impression that they had almost been frozen. The guacamole was the worst I've ever had (bland). The meal was edible. I could have saved myself the drive and eaten at Salsaritas, a place that I swore I would never go to again. If I had to choose between the two, Salsaritas would win. Boom Boom's might have been better if they had not glopped the ingredients into their container. I have heard that real Mexican food is bland. If that is true, then this Mexican restaurant is right on target. I lived in Texas and have had the exquisite Tex-Mex there. See, that's the real reason that Texas wanted it's independence from Mexico. The Texans wanted food that had flavor. So the reason that all of you are writing such positive reviews about Boom Boom is that you don't know any better. Though the atmosphere was average, we sat below an air conditioning unit which periodically would send a drop of water down on my son.

Boom Boom is the Real Thing

I have travelled extensivly in Mexico. This place is the best, Lupe does it like a real "family" place that you see in the small villages around natural tourist wonders or Mayan ruins in the countryside in Mexico. The places in Mexico are typically in a tent, where the family including the kids, grandparents and great-grandparents chop and serve all the ingredients fresh. The sauces and toppings make the meal, go for beans and cheese - if you crave the real deal.

Amazing Mexican

Agreed, Foodstuff doesn't have a CLUE what he/she is talking about. I've not only watched them cook all of the ingredients fresh, I've watched them also make all of their own sauces, salsas, and fresh guac. I have extensive experience with Mexican cuisine, having run a restaurant and also been a food critic in NYC, and I can definitely say that Boom Boom has some quality items. Is it absolutely authentic mexican style cuisine? Nope. That certainly doesn't mean it isn't GOOD mexican. Their portions are excellent, their prices are reasonable, and the food tastes great.

Let's also not forget that they allow you to BYOB and just lounge out there. It is a fantastic place to bring a group of friends. I'd reccommend it as possibly the 2nd best Mexican joint in Syracuse (Steve's on Tipp Hill being #1).

foodstuff is an idiot

Foodstuff is an idiot. Every time I go there I see someone cooking. So much for not preparing anything at the restaurant.....And how can you write a review that includes the phrase "...I don't think..." - don't guess - find out!! Don't be lazy. After all, you are writing a bad review that could hurt someone's business.

Anyplace But

One of the owners is Mexican, and she and her husband/partner spend part of each year there, so they must know what real Mexican cuisine is like (and at its best, it's as good as anything anywhere.). This was not only the worst fake Mex. food I have ever had, but one of the worst restaurant meals of many years of eating out. The menu is extremely limited, the ingredients were the cheapest obtainable, and I don't think they make anything there, not even the tortillas. It appeared they use the kitchen primarily to mix up the junk they serve. Some of the portions were large, so perhaps people go there just to get filled up. It can't possibly be for a decent meal. The friend with me knows Mexican food well, and I have traveled extensively there, and neither of could believe that anyone would offer such deplorable fare and call it Mexican food. There are much better options even in Syracuse if you need a taco hit.

Meals w/ Mom

Boom Boom Mex Mex is the best kept secret in the Syracuse area. Although, the secret didn't last long. They have a very friendly staff and Lupe is always stirring and chopping fresh ingredients. I love the restaurant not only for it's food, but b/c it is a place that my mom loves as well. Being married and not around the family much, it is the one place we both enjoy and find time to meet at every week. All I ask her is "are you hungry" and she knows where we are going. The Nachos are the best you will ever have. They come in a huge container overflowing for like 6 bucks. Great inexpensive authentic mexican food.

Hours

***Just so you know, it's closed from November to April. That's why no one picked up the phone.***

Boom Boom Mex Mex has really really excellent food, I frequently drive about 30 miles to eat there! (It's too bad they close from November to April.) The service is good also, but expect to wait in line.

The best Home Cookin' Mexican in CNY

A really great mexican meal and a fantiastic value! Tom & Lupe are pure gems and they work their heart out for your enjoyment. A must, if you like Mexican. Very ample portions, usually more than I can eat, so bring an appetitie! No beer or wine, bring your own cervesa e vino. They are open from April until November, so you will have a Mexican withdrawl through the winter. I love it!!!

out of the way and outstanding!

The place does sort of look like a dive on the outside, but I usually take that to mean it's better than most, i.e. the spend their time and money on the food rather than the outside appearance. A clue to the freshness of the ingredients: their 'freezer' is a small six-pack size cooler! The salsas are wonderful. Also, the wife in the owner couple grew up cooking in her family's restaurant in Mexico!

Not too fancy but nice

We learned about Boom Boom Mex Mex from someone who had been there who had really liked it. Good Mexican restaurants, (or any Mexican restaurants, come to think of it), are hard to come by here in CNY so we drove about 40 miles to Boom Boom Mex Mex. It had a surprising appearance at first take, almost kinda "dive"ish. It is definitely not a fancy restaurant. However, the service of the three friendly teenage girls was great. They were very helpful and smiley with us newcomers. There is something unusual about the way they serve their food compared to any other Mexican restaurant we had been to and that is everything goes ON the taco/burrito/quesedilla, as opposed to on the side. But please don't let that turn you off, the food is absolutely fantastic. We had burritos with beans, beef, rice, guacamole and sour cream and as you can imagine, they came out HUGE. So we ended up taking the 2nd half home, which since they were wrapped in tin foil, was easy and convenient. We would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who loves Mexican food as we do. You won't be disappointed.

Boom Boom's is THE BEST!

Delicious authentic Mexican cuisine made to order while you wait. If you have the patience to wait in line behind other satisifed repreat customers, you will not regret the wait time! The dine-in atmosphere is simple, no frills, but always neat and clean. Try it and you'll love it!
